Ep 35 | Something Old, Something New : Estrella Carrera

Estrella Carrera, a 26-year-old mother of two from Illinois, was found murdered in 2012 just days after her wedding. Her body was discovered in the bathtub of her apartment, still wearing the silver sequin dress from her wedding celebration. Her new husband, Arnoldo Jimenez, quickly became the prime suspect and was later charged with her murder. Authorities believe he killed her during an argument in his car and then left her body in the tub before fleeing. Jimenez was added to the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list and remains at large. Estrella’s tragic death shocked her community and became a haunting example of domestic violence hiding in plain sight.

Ep 34 | Something Old, Something New: Christie Chen

​Christe Chen, a 36-year-old pharmacist from Memphis, Tennessee, was tragically murdered by her husband, Bradley Robert Dawson, during their honeymoon at the luxury Turtle Island Resort in Fiji in July 2022. The couple had married just months earlier after a whirlwind romance. Two days into their stay, following an alcohol-fueled argument, Dawson fatally assaulted Chen, inflicting multiple blunt-force trauma injuries to her head. After the incident, Dawson fled the resort by kayak to a nearby island, where he was apprehended with his passport and personal belongings, indicating an attempt to flee the country. In December 2024, a Fijian court convicted Dawson of murder, and in February 2025, he was sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum of 18 years to be served before eligibility for parole. The case garnered international attention, highlighting issues of domestic violence and the tragic consequences that can ensue.

Samantha Miller was tragically killed on her wedding night in April 2023 when a suspected drunk driver slammed into the golf cart she and her new husband were riding in, just hours after they exchanged vows in Folly Beach, South Carolina. The impact threw her from the vehicle, and she died at the scene still wearing her wedding dress. Her husband, Aric Hutchinson, was seriously injured along with two other passengers. The heartbreaking case sparked national outrage and renewed conversations around drunk driving and justice for victims.

Ep 32 | Something Old, Something New : Laura Grillo

​Laura Grillo, a 37-year-old mother of three from Rowlett, Texas, was tragically murdered on November 13, 2015—just eight days before her planned wedding. She was found shot in the head in her kitchen, with no signs of forced entry, though a safe in the master bedroom had been emptied. Investigations revealed that her fiancé, Ioannis “John” Makris, orchestrated a murder-for-hire plot, paying his employees, Jesus Trevino and James Villeda, to carry out the killing. Makris was convicted of capital murder in September 2018 and sentenced to life in prison without parole. Trevino received the same sentence in February 2019, while Villeda accepted a plea deal for a 25-year sentence in exchange for his testimony against the other two. The case garnered national attention and was featured in true crime series such as ABC’s “20/20” and Oxygen’s “A Wedding and a Murder.”

Ep 29 | Emily Ferlazzo

Emily Ferlazzo was a 22-year-old woman from New Hampshire who was tragically murdered in October 2021. She had been traveling in a camper van with her husband, Joseph Ferlazzo, in Vermont to celebrate their one-year wedding anniversary. After initially reporting Emily missing, Joseph later confessed to killing her during an argument, stating that he shot and dismembered her inside the camper. Her remains were found in a bag in the camper van. The case drew national attention due to its shocking nature and the parallels some drew to other high-profile domestic violence cases...

Ep 28 | Anni Dewani

Anni Dewani was murdered in November 2010 while on her honeymoon in South Africa with her husband, Shrien Dewani. The couple was in Cape Town when their taxi was allegedly hijacked by two gunmen. Shrien was released unharmed, but Anni was later found shot dead in the abandoned vehicle. Investigations revealed a murder-for-hire plot, with evidence suggesting that Shrien had orchestrated the killing with local conspirators. However, after a high-profile trial, Shrien was acquitted due to insufficient evidence, while the hired gunmen and the taxi driver were convicted. The case remains controversial....
